Did you know citrus peels are packed with benefits and used across a myriad of different cultures?

For example, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) uses dried orange peel for clearing dampness, stimulating digestion, moving lymph, and supporting the lungs.

Citrus peels are a fantastic source of bioflavonoids which can reduce inflammation and puffiness in the body, fortify the body against environmental allergies, and may even have anti-cancer benefits.

There are lots of fun ways to use citrus peels — try steeping them in hot water to make tea, or turn them into pretty candied peels, or zest them into dishes.

This Whole Citrus Zinger recipe is a favorite for all the reasons listed above! It’s low in sugar so it can even be incorporated (in small amounts) into a low-carb diet. Feel free to add more honey if you choose!

1 large organic lemon or lime (sliced, seeds removed, peel on)
2 T. coconut milk
2 tsp raw local honey (or honeycomb)
1” piece of fresh ginger (peeled)
2-3 c. water
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)

Scrub lemon/lime with salt or soak in Thieves Fruit & Veggie Soak, then slice.

Blend all ingredients until smooth.

You can strain out the bits (I choose not to) before serving. Enjoy!

Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for several days.
